Sydney | Fun Family & Maternity Session on the Beach
Second-time mum Jenna didn’t have maternity photos done when she was pregnant with her first child, so she wanted to capture her family second time round.
We didn’t do a maternity shoot with our firstborn so we wanted to capture our family at this moment in time. We wanted photos of family fun, something that felt organic, not superposed, just having fun.
North Curl Curl, Sydney is a special place to us - we bought our first home here, so we agreed with Elena’s suggestion that it would be a great spot for the photo session. We started on the reserve, went down to the ocean and had so much fun. Our toddler Teddy loved running around in the waves.
The experience and photos exceeded all our expectations - to be honest, I went into the session feeling nervous, thinking it’s not going to be super fun, but Elena was great! She kept Teddy engaged, even though like most 2.5yr old toddlers, he’s very unpredictable and is in the ‘run and chase me’ phase! Afterwards, we thought, wow, that was actually really fun - going to the ocean at sunset was fun. Then seeing the results - just amazing! Other than our wedding, we haven’t had any professional photos done, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Elena really captured us having fun and you can really see the love in the photos.
I’d love to have professional photos taken again to document family life. Now that we’ve done it and love the photos – and their meaning, I will definitely do it again. I’ll look back and be so glad I have the photos of me pregnant, and when we just purchased a house. I’ll also send them to friends and family – our family is quite scattered with parents in the US, in-laws in the UK, and get some printed for a gallery wall in our new home.
If you’re thinking of booking a family photography session, trust in Elena and her process, she’s just so unbelievably talented. Sometimes you might feel a bit awkward, but it looks good. Trust in her style and she’ll guide you. Have fun with it – that’s why the session produced such amazing results, we were genuinely having fun with it – not forced smiles - which came out in the photos.
If you have a toddler, choose a time that works for them. We chose a time in the early evening, so he still had energy but wasn’t cranky. Our session at sunset made the pics so special, which is part of the experience. It’s worth the investment – and don’t worry about ‘what if I don’t like the way I look’, Elena’s just really good at what she does and takes very flattering photos.
