A pregnancy photo shoot really is a beautiful way to remember this unique time in your life, before you become plus one. Maternity photos are simple and natural, with you being you, and no awkward posing.
Maybe it’s your first, or your last. Maybe this pregnancy has been longed for. Maybe it’s been a tricky pregnancy and now you’re in the homestretch and can enjoy the last few weeks. Or maybe you just want to remember, capture and look back on this time of your life where you were superhuman and created a person. The reasons for booking a maternity shoot are so personal. For us, doing these photos are capturing the beauty of pregnancy, is also very personal, because it’s about creating beautiful photos of you, on your own, or with your other children.
We make you feel comfortable, not silly or whimsical. We know all the best angles and flattering lighting. Many women feel self-conscious and ‘big’ or ‘small’ – we make you feel good, and look natural. We can help with styling your outfit – it’s hard enough to know what to wear in real life, let alone in a shoot. But really, it’s down to what you feel comfortable in, and what works with your personality. The aesthetic is a mix of fashion editorial and portraiture, but you don’t have to model because we do the work to guide you, and find the best shots.
We always ask where you might like to do your shoot and can make some suggestions – the beach is super popular, but if you’re not a beach girl, it can be your own home, bush/forest, fields, rocks, wherever has some meaning for you.
Uniquely, we also shoot sessions in and under water – these artistic images have a special vibe, perfect for water babies. The ocean’s gorgeous blues and greens look amazing in colour photos, and sunlight coming through the water looks dramatic in black and white. You can be knee-deep to swimming underwater – whatever you feel like on the day.
We suggest having your photo session around weeks 32 to 34, but if you have an early surprise and go into premature labour, we are more than happy to work something out.
